Hey There, I'm Jessa!

When I was young I trained to become a professional ballet dancer from the age of 5. Performing roles with Oregon Ballet Theater, Jefferson Dancers and graduated with a BFA in Ballet from the U of U and was in the student company Utah Ballet. I went on to perform professionally in Salt Lake and SF. After I moved to SF with several injuries, I switched to the path of fitness. Almost 20 years later after having a faulty diagnosis from debilitating hip pain ( on and off again) I  finally had a good doctor figure out I had a hip labral tear.  I  am passionate about helping others with this pain and seeking treatment. (Read the blog article on hip pain if you want more.)

Most days you can find me hiking with my dog, doing yoga, pilates or strength training. I like good coffee shops and quaint boutique stores. I also love a good Netflix series and comedy specials. Some of my favorite shows have been Game of Thrones, Suits, The Witcher, Outlander, Stranger Things, True Blood, Family Guy. Comedians I enjoy include Amy Schumer, Ali Wong, Pete Holmes, Kevin Hart, & Dave Chappelle.

I am mostly known for my attention to detail and my loyalty. I deeply love to laugh.

People often refer to me as compassionate, encouraging, empathic, adaptable, flexible, responsive. I’ve been told I have the “eye of a hawk”  for detail in training, and that I give creative challenging exercises to my clients.

I love serving the world by helping people heal their physical ailments with exercise because I myself have on again off again injuries.

The things I am most passionate about in life are women’s equality in health and listening/singing/dancing to music.

I serve people who need help getting their core strong, fix imbalances, gain flexibility, and generally need fine tuning to get back to normal activities or their sport.

I am passionate about the sector between rehab and normal fitness because I myself have spent a long time in that place with various injuries.

I’ve been spotlighted on blog Kinetic Fix and my business was featured in local The Eliot Newspaper in Portland.

When I’m not busy working on my business and helping others, you can catch me traveling up and down the west coast, going to dance and circus performances, spending time with friends or walking my dog.

If your dying to hear more, here are five things you might not know about me:

  1. I performed in the 2002 Winter Olympic Ceremonies while I was attending University of Utah on a dance scholarship.

  2. I have fun goofing around creating my own dance moves

  3. I absolutely love the flying trapeze and would take classes if it was locally available.

  4. I enjoy indoor skydiving and any friendly competition in games and recreation.

  5. I have probably injured most parts of my body due to my hypermobility.

In addition to running Mod Physique since 2013, I've taught at the hospital Providence St. Vincent, in their Basecamp Community Health Program for 4 years. I taught mat pilates as part of their free to the community program. I've also worked for a year as a PT Aide/Exercise Specialist for Therapeutic Associates.

“I love seeing small gains, inside and out, when people take the journey towards health. I love making people smile and laugh when it gets tough. Teaching has made it relevant that it really is possible to make change happen at any point in your life. You just have to want it. I’m really excited to share that journey with you.”

Testimonial: " I've taken Jessa Freeman's class at Mod Physique numerous times, and she is one of the best movement instructors I've ever had the chance to learn from. Jessa's classes work on strength and stability for the joints in a way that yoga alone does not address. She teaches therapeutic movements that help to relieve mechanical wear on the body from our jobs." - Dr. Liya Leng

Testimonials

I have had chronic pain for over seven years and with a new baby things only got worse. Jessa’s mixture of aerobic activity with her knowledge of he human body was a perfect mixture. She took time to figure out my issues and created a strengthening program that worked for me. She was more thorough and knowledgeable than most of the physical therapists I saw — and she started to get me in great physical shape!
